An
Open Letter from DHYS to:
Commissioner
Jeff Rader (District 2)
Commissioner Kathie Gannon (Super District 6)
Georgia State Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield
(District 85)
RE:
Medlock Park & Druid Hills Youth Sports
Druid
Hills Youth Sports would like to thank the Commissioners
and Representative Benfield for their continued assistance
and friendship to Medlock Park. At the request from the
Commissioner's, we recently met with Roy Wilson, the new
Parks & Recreation Director, and Carl Glover, the
Director of Roads and Drainage.
The
meeting was scheduled to discuss the continued
flooding at Medlock Park. Based on our February 11,
2010 meeting in Commissioner
Rader's offices, the County agreed to conduct a clean-out
operation in the South Fork Peachtree Creek as it flows
under Willivee Drive. These operations started during
the week of February 15th, and will continue
for the next few weeks.
The
attached before and after photos show the dramatic change
in the drainage pathway.
We
understand that since the park is located in a flood plain,
flooding will be a part of the park's future. DHYS is
pleased with the direction of this current project. This
may go a long way to minimizing the frequency of the flooding
during normal rain events.
If
you need additional information, please contact me at
404.547.0175 or Jamie.Laubenthal@AECOM.com to discuss
this in more detail.

Laubenthal

These
photographs were taken from the Willivee Bridge, looking
up stream. There were many trees, tree stumps, and thick
privet growing in and around the opening of the bridge.
The
DeKalb County Roads and Drainage crews cleaned-out the
creek, removed the tree stumps and privet, and straightened
the creek channel.
