DHYS is fortunate to have several great coaches/instructors available to provide personal sessions for your player. These lessons can focus on a specific skill (pitching, hitting, etc.) or just give your player additional time and facilities to work on a variety of skills. Their fees are very reasonable and many DHYS players have already benefited from their talents. They all enjoy working with kids, provide positive reinforcement and routinely donate their time and talents to DHYS season after season. DHYS Player Skills Clinics We want to make you aware of exciting opportunities to improve your player's skills during this Spring season by receiving FREE professional baseball instruction. DHYS is making available (free of charge) a series of "skills clinics" focused on improving hitting and throwing/pitching skills. These clinics will be held at Medlock Park on (mostly) Monday nights throughout the season. We are fortunate enough to have these clinics led by experienced professional baseball instructors: Bill Melvin (pitching) [ Bills web site: http://www.pitchingforexcellence.com/ ] and Ben Johnstone (hitting) [Bens web site: http://www.toptierbaseball.com/] Location: Medlock Park in the area between the batting cages and the DHYS clubhouse. From there, Bill and Ben will kick off the sessions and proceed to either the batting cages or an open field for skills work. Who Should Attend: Any player is welcome. We ask that if your player wishes to attend, that they inform their coach and that they are accompanied by an adult to help the instructors.Cost: None About the instructors: All instructors are professional baseball coaches. Bill Melvin Coach Bill Melvin has been teaching baseball to young players across the South since 1986. He uses his eight years of professional pitching experience to improve players of all ages and every skill level; however, what really sets Bill apart is his exceptional character, outstanding communication skills, and infinite patience. After a lesson with Bill, players leave feeling good about themselves and more confident in their abilities to compete at the highest level. Ben Johnstone Ben is in his 8th year of providing instruction in the areas of HITTING, BASERUNNING, and FIELDING. Ben also trains athletes of all sports in the areas of SPEED & STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT. The clinics will focus on throwing/pitching skills; hitting skills; fielding skills; fitness; and defensive situations and strategy. These clinics will be held at Medlock Park (mostly on Monday nights, with a few exceptions) throughout the season. Professional Instructors We are fortunate to have these clinics led by experienced professional baseball instructors: Bill Melvin (pitching) and Ben Johnstone (hitting). The clinics listed below will feature both Bill and Ben, and will include instruction on pitching and hitting. Location of Clinics PLAYERS SHOULD REPORT FOR THESE CLINICS TO THE AREA BETWEEN THE BATTING CAGES AND THE CLUBHOUSE. FROM THERE, BILL AND BEN WILL KICK OFF THE SESSIONS AND PROGRESS TO EITHER THE BATTING CAGES OR AN OPEN FIELD FOR THE SKILLS WORK. Guidelines for Participation 1. Parents are expected to attend the clinics and help the instructors. 2. Managers: Guidelines are 3 players from each team per clinic, but more can attend with your approval and an appropriate level of parent/coach assistance from your team.
