Player Evaluations

For AA, AAA, and Major leagues: DHYS separates players into two skill-based leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (NL). The Rookie and Senior Leagues are not divided into AL and NL.

This:
  • Allows like-skilled players to be grouped together
  • Facilitates a better learning experience for players when they all need to learn and practice similar skills
  • Creates a safer environment for younger and less experienced players, as older, stronger player may hit or throw the ball extremely hard to a lesser skilled player, resulting in an injury. Safety is paramount and we must try to avoid these situations.
Players are evaluated to assess skill level. Scores are tallied and a total evaluation score is generated for each player. Skills that are usually evaluated include:
  • Running
  • Infield fielding and outfield fielding
  • Throwing
  • Hitting
  • Pitching (in AAA, Major, and Senior Leagues)
  • Sometimes the catcher position is evaluated (in AAA, Major, and Senior Leagues)
